Philemon Foundation 2nd Seminar on Jung History
Friday Evening through Sunday Mid-day, 21–23 November 2008
The Philemon Foundation is presenting the Second Philemon Seminar on Jung History, to be held November 21–23, 2008, in Toronto, Canada. Like our first extremely successful Philemon Seminar that was held in London in May 2006, this will be a wonderful opportunity to discuss the Foundation’s projects and activities, present and future, with our scholar editors and Board members in a charming and convivial atmosphere. The seminar will take place at a centrally located venue on the campus of the University of Toronto.
The weekend seminar is open to everyone interested in the new works by C. G. Jung on which Philemon’s scholar editors are working. Click here to register.
The program includes:
- Ernst Falzeder (Salzburg), speaking about Jung’s German Seminar of 1931 in which Jung interprets drawings, paintings, and visions of his patients, in part using amplifications from India and the Kundalini tradition.
- Suzanne Gieser (Stockholm), author of The Innermost Kernel. Depth Psychology — and Quantum Physics. Wolfgang Pauli’s Dialogue with C. G. Jung, will talk about the important relationship between C. G. Jung and Poul Bjerre, his colleague and prominent pioneering Swedish depth psychologist.
- Angela Graf-Nold (Zurich) will bring us up to date on her ongoing, groundbreaking editorial work on Jung’s seminal ETH Lectures of 1933 to 1941.
- Judith Harris (Toronto), will speak in depth about the second Philemon Series publication, the recently published translation of Jung’s fascinating seminar on Children’s Dreams.
- Sonu Shamdasani (London), Philemon’s General Editor and Reader in Jung History at University College London, who is currently editing the Red Book, will enlighten us on new and exciting developments in Jung History.
- Giovanni Sorge (Zurich) of the University of Zurich will discuss Jung’s 1933 Berlin Seminar in which Jung discusses the psychological understanding of Eastern thought, Yoga, symbols, archetypes, and the work of Heinrich Zimmer, his close friend and legendary Indologist.
The cost of the three-day seminar is $500 per participant, which includes the opening reception, two breakfast buffets, and numerous coffee breaks (as well as very good company!). A $30 donation will qualify registrants for the special donor cost of $450. Those interested in attending are welcome to contact smartin@philemonfoundation.org. You may also register here by placing the cursor over the ‘support’ and then clicking on the word ‘giving’. Please note in the box that payment is for the Philemon Seminar in Jung History.
We recommend that you book accommodations at The Delta Chelsea Hotel, which is a short walk from the Emmanuel College seminar venue, at a weekend rate of approximately $140 per room, per night. Alternatively, some may wish to book a room at several other hotels close to the University of Toronto campus in downtown Toronto (a list of nearby hotels is below). Rooms must be booked directly with the hotel of your choice (Philemon has not contracted with any of these hotels for rooms for seminar attendees). If you have questions about accommodations, contact Julia Blackbourn, Philemon Director of Development, 617-696-0908.
